Even though trails and hikes are not necessarily the number one priority for tourists who visit Africa, since wildlife and hunting take the first place, there are plenty of great adventures to embrace on foot. Besides beautiful vast deserts, certain parts of Africa also offer lush grassy fields, waterfalls and rivers, and last but not least, breath-taking mountains. Here are just a few of the most well-liked African trails with gorgeous scenery.

Mount Kilimanjaro

Mount Kilimanjaro or simply Kili, as many refer to it, raises 19,340 ft above the African plains, which makes it the highest mountain in the region. Its highest point bears the name Uhuru, and is one of the most scenic miracles of this nation. Going on an adventure to explore Kilimanjaro does take a little bit of effort and physical prowess, but is definitely worth the sweat, as it offers the most amazing view from the top.

Victoria Falls

Victoria Falls, also referred to by locals as “Mosi-oa-Tunya”, are the largest and most magnificent waterfalls in Africa. Their nickname “smoke that thunders” gives verisimilitude to their awe-inspiring and powerful beauty that is unparalleled by any other natural site. This place is beyond one’s wildest imagination – not only does it take one’s breath away, but this enchanting spot in Zimbabwe also entails a little wildlife bonus, which also makes it a great place for taking close-up photos of animals. So, if you are looking for a refreshing hike, that encompasses the possibility of an adventurous swim, make sure not to miss this magical spot.

Fish River Canyon

If you are looking for a peaceful desert hike and hoping to see ancient rocks, and peculiar yet extraordinary animals, an adventure at the Fish River Canyon is the perfect choice for you. This natural wonder is 160km long, 27km wide, and 550m deep. Located in the Namibian Desert, it is one of the oldest deserts (500 million years old) known to man. During your hike at this marvelous place, expect to see some klipspringers, wild horses, mountain zebras, and kudu; and of course, don’t forget to bring your camera to make your memories last.

If you are looking for a new thrill, beautiful landscape, exotic animals, exciting hikes, and fun trails, Africa is definitely a unique place that can offer unforgettable scenic adventures and life-changing experiences. Exploring the wondrous African trails should be on everyone’s bucket list.
