In a move to modernise rural communities, Communications Minister Faith Muthambi, South Africa, will hand over information communication technology (ICT) equipment to the youth of Kwaggafontein.
Minister Muthambi, in partnership with Eskom, will hand over the equipment and furniture to the Ndzundza Fene Tribal Council and Ndlelehle Youth Centre in Kwaggafontein, Mpumalanga, on Friday.
“Information is the key to democracy. ICT promotes greater transparency and speeds up the decision-making process of government. With the electronic equipment that we are going to donate, we will be empowering our rural communities to expand their use of government services,” Minister Muthambi said.
This development also takes government closer to creating a more inclusive digital economy and knowledge society, as envisaged in the National Development Plan (NDP).
The furniture and ICT equipment is part of the commitment that the Minister made in June during her door-to-door registration campaign for government subsidised set-top boxes.
