Ethiopia to Establish 8 Centres of Excellence

Ethiopia’s Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) is set to establish eight science and technology centers of excellence at the Addis Ababa and Adama Science and Technology universities at a cost of 300 million US dollars.

Dr Shumete Yigzaw, Director General of Science and Technology Universities and Research Institutions at MoST told FBC that the centers would help students to conduct researches in second and doctorate degree programs.

According to him, the research will focus on energy, engineering, nutrition, water management and computer science, among others.

The centers will be networked with similar centers worldwide so that students could conduct researches smoothly, added.

In addition to producing skilled manpower, the centers, to be equipped with well furnished laboratories, help to save the foreign currency the country spends for research works, Dr Shumete indicated.
