Nigeria: OLX Partners TechCabal on Product Masterclass for Developers

Nigeria’s leading online classifieds site, teamed up with;  Nigeria’s largest tech blog focused on promoting conversations around technology, mobile and internet in Africa to host a product masterclass for developers themed “Building products that will be useful to people”.

Speakers at the event which was held in Lagos were Stephen Ballot, Chief Technology Officer, OLX SSA; Stephen van der Heijden, Product Owner, OLX SSA, Kene Udeze, User Experience Lead, Co-Creation Hub, Ire Aderinokun, Design and Product Lead, Big Cabal Media and Oo Nwoye, Co-Founder, Fonebase Labs to share insights on building killer apps.

Addressing the media at the masterclass, Stephen Ballot, CTO, SSA, OLX stated that “At OLX we optimize our product to suit local market needs, this is by sharing how we develop unique product for each market, like the Do It For Me (D.I.F.M).”

Ballot also added that “We get the local tech community excited about our product and anxious to help us test and evangelize how big a difference the OLX app can improve their lives”.

Commenting on the partnership, Bankole Oluwafemi, Editor-in-Chief; stated that “There are lots of talented developers in Lagos. However, the practice of user experience design is still very nascent.

“Creating products that will achieve traction, locally and globally goes beyond technical proficiency, and requires attention to the details of how the intended targets will interact with them.” Olufemi also added that “there aren’t enough local resources to help creators learn about this fundamental aspect of product design, so we were happy to work with OLX and a panel of design experts to bring this masterclass to the community.”
