Applications for the 2016 Appsafrica.com Innovation Awards, which celebrate the best in mobile and tech from across Africa, are now open.
The Awards are hosted by Appsafrica, a tech news portal and advisory service for mobile and tech ventures planning to launch or expand in sub-Saharan Africa.
The 2015 edition celebrated 10 winners from over 200 entries across 21 African countries with the winners coming from South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Cameroon, Tanzania and Togo.
Tanzania’s mPaper took home last year’s Educational Award for its innovation that enables instant access to newspapers and magazines through mobile devices.
Appsafrica.com invites applications from ventures that can demonstrate innovation in mobile or technology to meet the needs of any African market in the following categories of the 2016 Awards: Disruptive Innovation Award; Best Social & Messaging Award; Best African App Award; Enterprise Solution Award; News & Entertainment Award; Educational Award; Fintech Award; Social Impact Award; Brand On Mobile Award; and the Women In Tech Award.
These awards give participating start-ups global industry recognition, invaluable networking opportunities and publicity.
The Awards ceremony brings together leaders from the mobile and tech community, enterprise, media, investors and innovators from all over the continent and connects them with global players.
The deadline for entries is September 10 with the finalists being announced in October.
Applications are assessed by an expert panel of judges selected on the basis of their knowledge, influence and contribution to the improvement of technology and business in Africa.
The 2016 Awards will take place in Cape Town, South Africa on November 14 this year.
