Ethiopian Airlines becomes first African airline to take delivery of World’s Most Advanced Commercial Passenger Jet

Ethiopian Airlines is the first African airline to take delivery of the world’s most advanced commercial passenger aircraft – the Airbus A350XWB, according to FBC.

Registered as ET-ATQ with an Airbus Manufacturers Serial Number MSN 40, the new aircraft will ring in a new era for Ethiopian, which has hitherto been an almost exclusively Boeing airline, apart from some 15 Bombardier Q400NextGen’s serving domestic and near regional routes on low density departure times.

Powered by two Rolls Royce Trent engines, the new jet will be able to operate nonstop to even the furthest ET destinations, and the unparallelled cabin comfort will no doubt see demand for flights with this plane grow in leaps and bounds.

The first new aircraft could be deployed from July 1 on the route from Addis Ababa to Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, no doubt aimed to impress this key African marketplace to travel with Ethiopian rather than other carriers.

Ethiopian has 12 such aircraft on order but this could increase to 25 aircraft.

  1. Great improvement by Ethiopian Airlines, and this should be a wake up call to all our African countries especially Nigeria. we need to improve our transportation industry to delivery quality to Africans and the world at large. So also we should look into pure maintenance of the aircraft here in Africa, then going outside the continent to spend more money. Thanks, from team.
