The economic growth registered over the past 25 years has changed Ethiopia’s entire image, said Dr Debretsion Gebremichael, Deputy Prime Minister for Finance and Economic Cluster and Minister of Communication and Information Technology.
In an exclusive interview with FBC on Tuesday, Dr Debretsion said that Ethiopia’s economic growth had been proved successful after it was tested by one of the worst droughts in 50 years.
As a result of the economic transformation it has made over the past two decades, the country managed to resist the worst drought by itself and with a little support from the international community, he said.
Dr Debretsion further said the economic growth registered over the past 25 years is also benefiting majority of Ethiopians.
Despite some limitations, the economic growth attained over the past allowed the country to fairly expand and distribute education, health, electricity, water and other infrastructural facilities in urban and rural areas, he noted.
The international community recognized Ethiopia as one of the ten fastest growing economies in the world and this, in turn changed the country’s previous bad image for better at the international fora, he indicated.
Hence, big investors and companies are eyeing Ethiopia due to its economy and this shows Ethiopia’s potential to sustain its double digit economic growth, he added.
