Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation (ECWS) has taken its first project outside of Ethiopia. The project is for the construction of irrigation infrastructure development project in Rwanda and it is for the remuneration of $4.7 million.
Speaking on a farewell ceremony for the project Chief Executive Officer of ECWS, Hailemeskel Tefera, said that, in the coming five years, the government plans to shore up its capacity for handling huge construction works.
According to him, the merger between the former Ethiopian Road Construction Corporation and the Ethiopian Water Works Enterprise is part of this plan.
Agonafir Zewde, Head of the Rwanda Project, said the overseas project was an important experience in order to carry out similar projects all over Africa. He also vowed to make an all-out effort for the success of the project.
