Ethiopian Prime Minister, Hailemariam Desealegn, on December 9, 2015, inaugurated the Metu-Gambella 230 kilovolt power transmission and power reception and distribution project, Ethiopian News Agency reports.
The over $47 million project is expected to reliably address problems related to power supply in the area. The project is meant for power supply in Gambella region and surrounding areas.
“The project will adequately respond to the power demands of communities in resettlement areas,” Hailemariam said.
The project is expected to meet power supply gaps in the investment sector as well as facilitate the socio-economic activities at national level, according to the Premier.
Hailemariam Desalegn also applauded Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) for the actualization of the project which took more than five years.
Gambella State Chief, Gatluak Tut, expressed conviction that the newly launched power project will alleviate the erratic power supply in the State and surrounding areas.
