A cornerstone was laid on the 24th of November, 2015 for the construction of Selale University at Fiche town, Oromia State in Ethiopia.
Chief Administrator of Oromia State, Muktar Kadir, and Minister of Education, Shiferaw Shigute, laid down the foundation.
Speaking on the occasion, Ethiopia’s Minister of Education, Shiferaw Shigute, said that Ethiopia is committed to the equitable distribution of universities, in order to address the development needs of communities living in the proximities of the institutions.
The minister added that higher education development program of the nation has been carried out in consonance with the Growth and Transformation Plan which benefited some half a million students from 33 universities established throughout the country.
It was indicated that Selale University would be instrumental in enhancing technological development and boosting research programs to promote agricultural productivity.
Some 200 hectares of land is allotted for the construction of the university.
