Ethiopia’s AACRA to Raise Addis Ababa’s Road Coverage

Addis Ababa City Roads Authority (AACRA) has said it plans to increase the city’s road coverage up to 22 percent in this budget year, according to Ethiopian News Agency.

General Manager of AACRA, Engineer Fekade Haile, explained that they have plans to build 917Km of roads this budget year.

“The additional 917 Kilometres of road construction will raise the city’s road coverage from 20 percent to 22 percent this budget year,” Fekade added.

This comes after AACRA reported increasing road coverage in the city, from 17.7 percent to 20 percent in the last fiscal year, utilising 98 percent of the fund allocated to it by the Road Fund.

In a press conference called on August 21, 2015 by the Authority, Fekade had stated that the total fund allocated to the Authority was 6.2 billion Br of which 6.1 billion Br was invested for different road projects. 694Km of road were constructed, increasing the road network of the city from 4,671Km last year to 5,365Km. These roads were 241Km of asphalt, 322Km of cobblestone and 131Km of gravel, according to the report.

Among the 187 road projects planned this fiscal year, there are 115Km of main roads, 49 road projects around condominium houses and four gravel roads.
